I’m a big fan of PowerPole connectors and have been watching the Chunzehui F-1005 on Amazon for some time. It was a bit more that I was willing to spend at it’s regular £59 price point but it want direct to my basket when it recently went on special offer for £29.50.
It’s well made with a sturdy steel case but what lurks underneath?
The package includes the distribution unit fitted with the following fuses:
- 1 x 40 Amp (on the input)
- 2 x 30 Amp
- 2 x 20 Amp
- 2 x 10 Amp
- 1 x 5 Amp
- 1 x 3 Amp
Also included but not shown in the photos are 9 x 40 Amp PowerPole connectors (which look identical to the genuine Anderson connectors that I have) and 9 black “hoods” for the connectors.
The PCB is good quality and the soldering all looks fine with no dry joints or missing/misplaced components. I like the additional wire links along the power rails which provide a substantial path for higher current draw.
I’ll be adding another one to my basket very soon while the price is still discounted! You can see the listing here (affiliate link): https://amzn.to/3bca03e
Hello Matt,
Will you crimp and solder? There has been much discussion as you may have read on various forums (Flex Radio) about problems with Power Pole connectors in particular copies of the Anderson.
The distribution board here is home-brewed using good quality 4mm Banana plugs/sockets. Not a perfect solution for obvious reasons but cheap!
I always crimp and solder. Crimp for mechanical strength and solder for electrical performance. That’s the way I was taught by the time served radio engineer when I worked maintaining large safety critical VHF and UHF networks and we never had a unit fail with power connector issues so that’s good enough for me!
